Gustavo Matamoros (* 1957 in Caracas ) is a Venezuelan composer.

Life

Matamoros lives in the USA, where he has been artistic director of the Subtropics Festival for experimental music since 1989 . Since 1996 he has also led the interdisciplinary Sound Arts Workshop he founded .

Matamoros is best known for his band SEE, in which hand saws are used. In addition, Sam Ashley is one of his partners, with whom he also appeared in Germany. He also worked a. a. with Alison Knowles , Fred Lonberg-Holm , Lou Mallozzi , Malcolm Goldstein , Russell Frehling , Jacqueline Humbert , Shahreyar Ataie , David Manson , Charles Recher , Helena Thevenot , Dinorah Rodriguez , Davey Williams and Jan Williams .

His intermedia works include solo performances, objects, sound installations, sound videos and radiophonic works. His portraits (retratos) , in which he processed sound material from the person portrayed, became known. Among other things, he has twice received the Venezuelan National Prize for Composition.
