David Tsebe

David Tsebe (born November 9, 1966 ) is a retired South African marathon runner .

In 1988 he finished second in the Cape Town Marathon and won the Port Elizabeth Marathon . In 1989 he was South African runner-up in the marathon and won in Port Elizabeth and the Durban Marathon . In 1990 he became national marathon champion with the national record time of 2:09:50 h, set another national record in the half marathon on July 21 in Durban with 1:01:03 and won again in Port Elizabeth and Durban.

In 1992, shortly after the lifting of the sporting sanctions imposed on South Africa because of the apartheid policy, he celebrated his greatest triumph when he won the Berlin Marathon in 2:08:07. This time was not only a South African record, but also the best time in the world for the year. The following year he finished third in the same position in 2:12:07.
