David Zindell

David Zindell (born November 28, 1952 in Toledo , Ohio ) is an American science fiction and fantasy author and a graduate mathematician.

Life

David Zindell was born on November 28, 1952 in Toledo, Ohio. He attended the University of Colorado at Boulder , where he received a BA in Mathematics in 1984 . He still lives in Boulder today.

His first published story was The Dreamer's Sleep in 1984. The following year he won the Writers of the Future competition. Another year later he was nominated for the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer .

In his novels, starting with Neverness , Zindell tries to overcome the contrast between materialism and spiritualism. In part, these work like a mathematical search for the origin of life. In his Valasho epic , a fantasy cycle, he explores the evolution of consciousness.
