Dawn of Winter is a doom metal band from Germany.

history

The band was founded in 1990 by the singer Gerrit Philipp Mutz (ex-Tragedy Divine, Sacred Steel ) and the drummer Oliver Schramm under the name Cemetery . The band's first release was the Perfect Solitude demo . After being renamed Dawn of Winter, the follow-up demo Path of the Worm was released in 1991 . In 1993 the mini album Celebrate the Agony followed - for the first time with the guitarist Jörg M. Knittel (ex-Sacred Steel) and the bassist Joachim Schmalzried. Founding member and drummer Oliver Schramm left the band in 1993 and was replaced by Dennis Schediwy in the same year.

style

The band plays classic Doom Metal. The band's role models are Candlemass , Saint Vitus and Black Sabbath . Aleksey Evdokimov describes the music in his Doom Metal Lexicanum as "slow and traditional Doom Metal that would be played without hurry".
