Dazhao

The Dazhao Temple ( Chinese  大 召 or 大 召 寺 , Pinyin Dàzhào  - "Great Temple") is an important temple of the Gelug School of Tibetan Buddhism in the old town of Hohhot , the capital of Inner Mongolia . Originally built in 1579 during the Ming Dynasty , it is considered to be the oldest Lamaist temple in Inner Mongolia.

His particularly venerated religious treasures include an oversized silver Shakyamuni statue donated by the 3rd Dalai Lama in 1586 on the occasion of a visit , which is why the temple is also called the Silver Buddha Temple ( Chinese 银 佛寺 , Pinyin Yínfó Sì ). He also owns a shrine to the Qing Emperor Kangxi and murals commemorating his visit. Finely crafted dragon carvings are among his cultural assets.

The Dazhao Temple ( Dazhao ) has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (Inner Mongolia) (6-488) since 2006 .
