Deck Nine Games (formerly Idol Minds ) is an American game development company based in Westminster .

history

Idol Minds was founded by Mark Lyon on March 31, 1997 after he moved his family from California to Colorado . Originally based in Boulder, the company moved to Louisville in 2003 and Westminster in 2015.

Idol Minds was best known for its ragdoll physics based game Pain, which was first released on November 29, 2007. The game became the “all time top downloaded game” on PlayStation Network in 2008. On October 21, 2009 it was reported that Idol Minds had laid off 26 of its 46 employees in a series of layoffs. A company employee named budget cuts at Pain-Verlag Sony Computer Entertainment as the main reason for the downsizing.

On June 7, 2011 announced Sony Interactive Entertainment on the E3 to ruin, a "Diablo action role-playing game" for PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 3 , which is being developed in collaboration with SCE San Diego Studio at Idol Minds. Later, on January 13, 2012, the name of the warrior's den was renamed, Idol Minds was withdrawn from the project on April 2 of this year, then the warrior's den was deleted in July 2013.

On August 10, 2015, a Kickstarter project for a game called "Shutterbug" was launched to raise $ 400,000 in funding. The project was canceled 10 days later after it had raised $ 2,973, with Idol Minds stating that things did not work out.

On May 31, 2017, Idol Minds announced that the studio had changed direction to focus on narrative-driven games after developing a toolset called StoryForge and trading it under the trade name Deck Nine. The company said it was already developing a "brand new addition to a critically acclaimed franchise". The next day, June 1, 2017, several images of an alleged prequel to the graphic adventure game Life Is Strange 2015 ran on the Deck Nine website. On June 11, 2017, at Microsoft's E3 2017 press conference, Life Is Strange publisher Square Enix announced that a new episode, Before the Storm, was being developed by Deck Nine Games.

On September 20, 2018, Deck Nine announced they were working on a new game with Square Enix.
