The Dedinje tunnel is a central part of the diameter line in the new Belgrade railway junction . The tunnel is located on the Beograd Centar railway station - Rakovica route . The double-track tunnel has two tubes approx. 3.1 km in length. It leads through the ridges of the Topčidersko brdo and Dedinje and passes under the residential complex Dedinje, as well as the Topčider barracks and the royal castles on the Dedinje.

geology

The tunnel runs through Mesozoic sediments of the Šumadija region. At the portals there are gently sloping layers of neogene flysche and marl. The central zone is characterized by reef limestone, layered sandstones, marls and limestones. The construction work on the north portal under Humska ul. And the Partizan Stadium as well as under the White Castle on Dedinje was difficult. The north portal is in clay marl with an early Quaternary loess cover . Below the loess cover lies a zone of completely depleted clay marl of the Pannonium . Below, after a transition zone of leached clay marl, there is the zone of unused clay marl in which the majority of the tubes were dug by mining.

construction

The building permit was granted on December 5, 1975. In contrast to the Vračar tunnel , which was built using shield driving, the Dedinje tunnel was built using mining techniques. The New Belgrade Railway Bridge was completed in 1979, and in 1984 it connected the former terminus Beograd Centar on the left with the Novi Beograd district . In 1988 the Dedinje Tunnel was opened to traffic as the first of the diameter lines. A single-track Beovoz light rail traffic connected Batajnica with Resnik via Beograd Centar and Rakovica until 1992. Since 1992, through traffic from Resnik to Pančevo has also been possible through the Dednije and Vračar tunnels.

The right tube is 3080 m long, the left 3111 m long. At junction "G" at the Plavi voz garage, the south portal connects to the old route to Beograd station via Topčider.

Protective bunker

The right tube of the Dedinje Tunnel has two shelters (STD), one is used by the city's population and one is used to store valuables.

business

The Dedinje tunnel is a central part of the railway infrastructure in the Belgrade area. It provides the most important connection on the routes from Belgrade to Istanbul and Thessaloniki as well as Bar. As a result of the closure and dismantling of the rails on the site of the former Belgrade train station , all through traffic has been shifting from the former route through the entire Topčiderska reka valley to the Section of the route leading to Beograd Centar in the junction "G" (Rasputnica "G") in the south portal of the Dedinje tunnel before Topčider , or via the Vračar tunnel to Pančevacki most .
