The DEHN SE + Co KG (short DEHN ) is a company of Electrical Engineering , based in Nuremberg and a branch office in Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate . Development, production, sales and administration are located in Neumarkt. Another location for warehouse, logistics and production in Mühlhausen (Neumarkt region) was opened in January 2014.

The internationally active company develops and produces products in the three areas of surge protection , lightning protection / earthing and occupational safety for customers in industry, trade and wholesale. The portfolio is supplemented by protection solutions and services. The company is represented in Germany with 20 sales outlets.

history

On January 21, 1910, Hans Dehn , a trained precision mechanic and electrical installer, registered a “trade for the installation of electrical systems” with the city council of Nuremberg. Since it was founded, the company has not only installed electrical systems but also installed lightning protection systems . After Hans Dehn received his first patent in the field of lightning protection in 1918 and three years later opened a branch in Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate, the company began manufacturing its own lightning protection and earthing components in the early 1920s.

In 1933, Hans Dehn transferred part of the responsibility to his sons Walter and Willy. Both were involved and the family company traded as DEHN & SÖHNE. In 1941 the youngest son Richard also became a co-owner. During the Second World War , the company buildings in Nuremberg and Neumarkt were badly damaged. In 1945 the family began to rebuild the company and in 1948 decided to move the production site from Nuremberg to Neumarkt.

DEHN + SÖHNE first presented its product range for lightning protection and earthing at the Hanover Fair in 1952. The first development activities on the subject of "earthing and short-circuiting" began and the foundation stone was laid for today's product area of occupational safety . Hans Dehn died at the end of the year and his sons Walter, Willy and Richard Dehn continued his legacy.

As the world's first manufacturer, the company introduced in 1954 a surge of low voltage - known as J250 - on the market. Richard Dehn thus laid the foundation for today's largest product group of surge protection. In the same year the company started its export business with a foreign agency in Austria .

In 1981 Walter, Willy and Richard Dehn retired from the management. They handed over responsibility to Hans-Joachim Dehn and Thomas Dehn as well as Peter Hasse. In 2004 Hans-Joachim Dehn and Peter Hasse retired and Peter Zahlmann took over responsibility for the technical area. With Philipp Dehn, a member of the fourth generation of the family joined the company as a managing partner in 2011. Two years later his father, Thomas Dehn, left the operational business. Helmut Pusch strengthened the management alongside Philipp Dehn and Peter Zahlmann. At the beginning of 2016 Christian Köstler became the fourth member of the management. In July 2018 Thomas Schöpf succeeded Peter Zahlmann, who retired after 26 years at DEHN.

On July 1, 2019, the company renamed DEHN SE + Co KG. Without the addition of "+ Sons" and thus without "ö", the name should also be clear and easy to pronounce in an international environment. The new corporate orientation is intended to underline DEHN's international presence and sustainable development.

Product areas

Overvoltage protection

The portfolio for surge protection offers protection devices for power engineering with the “Red / Line” product line and protection for signal and data transmission as well as MSR and information technology with the “Yellow / Line” product line. Surge protective devices for building installation are divided into:

  • Type 1 arresters, which can divert partial lightning currents of the waveform 10/350 μs non-destructively and are therefore called lightning current arresters.
  • Type 2 and type 3 arresters that are used to protect against surge voltages (surge arresters).

Lightning protection / earthing

The external lightning protection system (interception system, down conductor and earthing system) protects people and protects buildings and systems from fire and destruction. In addition, it reduces the influence of electromagnetic lightning fields.

Osh

The product area occupational safety offers a comprehensive range of earthing and short-circuiting devices via voltage testers and safety pliers for working in the disconnected state of a system or for working under voltage (AuS) within the framework of the 5 safety rules . Products for personal protective equipment (PPE) for use when working on electrical systems complete the range.

Industry sectors

The customers come primarily from the following sectors: residential and functional buildings, photovoltaic and wind power plants, telecommunications and mobile communications, transport and traffic, manufacturing and process industries as well as from security technology and the military.

Research and Development

The company has been the founder of the professorship "Lightning and Surge Protection" at the TU Ilmenau since 2011 .
