Stretch-shortening cycle

The stretch-shortening cycle (DVZ) is the active lengthening of the muscles immediately followed by the contraction of the same muscle. After the lengthening (by body weight or other muscles), an eccentric, then a concentric contraction occurs . Since the muscles are plastic and elastic, the contraction must occur immediately after the stretch, before the muscles have adapted to the stretch. The DVZ is particularly fast and energy-saving thanks to stored energy from previous movements . However, it is controversial in the literature where this energy is stored, whether in muscles or connective tissue . The DVZ depends on the flexibility of tendons and ligaments . Since these each have to be stretched to the limit, high stretchability is unfavorable for the development of the DVZ. In the DVZ, children develop a speed per kilogram of body weight that is not inferior to that of adults. The DVZ is trained by plyometry .
