Deidre Leanne Brock (born December 8, 1961 in Western Australia ) is a British politician of the Scottish National Party (SNP).

Life

Born in Western Australia in 1961, Brock grew up in Perth, Australia . She studied English at Curtin University there and graduated with a bachelor's degree . She then completed an acting training at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts and took on a few small roles. Relatives of Brocks live in Scotland. During a vacation in Scotland in 1995, she met her current life partner and moved to Scotland permanently. The mother of two lives in Edinburgh .

Political career

Brock was elected to Edinburgh City Council for the Leith Walk district. There she was assigned, among other things, to the Lord Provost of the city. In the British general election in 2015 , Brock ran for the SNP in the constituency of Edinburgh North and Leith . She stood against the Labor MP Mark Lazarowicz , who has represented the constituency in the British House of Commons since 2001 . After the SNP gained massive votes in these elections, Brock achieved the highest percentage of votes with 40.9% and subsequently moved into the House of Commons for the first time. There she is a member of the Public Accounts Committee . Despite losing votes, Brock maintained her mandate in the early general election in 2017 .
