Deirdre M. Curtin (born January 17, 1960 in Dublin ) is an Irish law professor for European law.

Curtin studied law at University College Dublin and Trinity College, Dublin. She then worked for several years as legal secretary at the Irish judge at the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg. In 1991 she received her PhD from the National University of Ireland . From 1992 to 2002 she was Professor of International Law (Law of International Organizations) at the University of Utrecht , from 2003 to 2013 she was part-time Professor of International and European Law at the Utrecht School of Governance (USBO) and has been Professor of European Law since 2008 from the University of Amsterdam . She is Director of the Amsterdam Center for European Law and Governance (ACELG).

In 2014/15 she was a fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg Berlin. She was also visiting professor at the College of Europe in Bruges and at the Center for European Law at Cambridge University.

Since 2015 she has been Professor of European Law at the European University Institute in Florence.

She is a leading expert on EU law in the Netherlands, examining fundamental phenomena such as legitimacy, accountability (uncovering deficits in the EU), democratic legitimation and secrecy in European law. In addition to legal aspects, she also examines general administrative structures and their effectiveness.

In 2007 she received the Spinoza Prize . In 2003 she became a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences . In 2008 she received an honorary doctorate from University College Dublin. In 2013 she became Honorary Bencher at the King's Inns in Dublin.
