Delaunay is an impact crater on the front of the moon , east of the Mare Nubium . It is northeast of La Caille crater and southwest of Faye . The crater is very badly eroded and the rim is difficult to make out due to overlapping further impacts.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the French mathematician and astronomer Charles Eugène Delaunay .
