The Delaware State Route 71 ( DE 71 for short ) is a state route in the US state of Delaware that runs in a north-south direction.

The State Route begins on US Highway 13 south of Townsend and ends after 35 kilometers in Tybouts Corner on US Highway 13 and Delaware State Route 1 .

After the junction DE 71 from US 13 to extend in a northerly direction and passes in the center of Middletown , the St. Anne's Episcopal Church before the road in the Main Street to State Route 299 crosses. In the north of the city it meets the US Highway 301 , which from this point uses a common route parallel to the Norfolk Southern Railway . Southeast of Summit Airport they meet State Route 896 , which also uses the shared route for a few kilometers. Shortly after the junction they leave the Norfolk Southern Railroad and north of the airport, State Route 15 branches off in a southerly direction.

About two kilometers north of the Summit Bridge over the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal , the DE 71 leaves the route of the US 301 and DE 896 in an easterly direction and then circles Lums Pond State Park to the south before the road in Kirkwood again follows the route of the Norfolk Southern crosses. It crosses State Route 72 on Wrangle Hill Road and south of Bear the DE 71 meets Delaware State Route 7 before ending at US 13 and State Route 1 after 35 kilometers.
