O Crux, ave spes unica in Delbrück Johannes Baptist Church

The Delbrücker Kreuztracht is a procession in Delbrück in which a cross is carried. It takes place on Good Friday .

history

Philipp von Hoerde zu Boke brought a splinter of the Holy Cross from a pilgrimage to the Holy Land and gave this relic to the church in Delbrück. At the behest of Prince-Bishop Ferdinand von Fürstenberg , the Holy Cross of Delbrück from 1496 was opened in 1671 and a particle of the Holy Cross was found in it. The find was confirmed by miraculous healings. This is how the veneration of the cross began in Delbrück. In the Archdiocese of Paderborn , the cross costume was introduced in the form of a procession to seven churches in the city, in the manner of the Roman pilgrim churches by the Jesuits . Therefore, a Jesuit priest also preaches to this day.

procedure

Today only Jesus and Simon of Cyrene are represented. The performers are anonymous. Acolytes carry the instruments of torture - crown of thorns, scourge, rod and nails - ahead of them. The procession moves to the cemetery to then take the path with the seven footfalls. Prayer rings out at each station

"O Crux, ave spes unica. - Greetings, O cross, you only hope. "

Then the procession reaches the Kreuzkapelle . Traditionally, a Jesuit priest gives the closing sermon there.
