The Delegation of the European Union to the United States ( Delegation of the European Union to the United States ) is the representative body of the European Union in the United States of America. Its headquarters are in Washington, DC and its chairman is the EU ambassador to the United States. It is one of the 139 representations and offices of the EU worldwide.

history

The USA was the first state to officially recognize the ECSC and in 1953 founded the US representation in the ECSC with its seat in Brussels. tasks

The European Union delegation to the United States organizes cultural events and promotes European culture in the United States, for example as part of the European Month of Culture . It intends to make a significant contribution to European public diplomacy in the USA. In addition, one of their main tasks is to participate in the joint resolution of conflicts such as the Middle East conflict. The common values ​​shared by the EU and the USA (especially peace, freedom and the rule of law) will be given special consideration. The delegation also coordinates military interventions, for example the European Union's rule of law mission in Kosovo (EULEX Kosovo), in which around 60 American soldiers take part. Working together on sustainable development and combating dependence on raw materials is also one of the delegation's fields of competence. Last but not least, labor and trade policy is an important part of European-American relations and thus also of the delegation.

It works together with the embassies of the 27 member states of the EU. It analyzes the political, economic and social situation in the USA and sends reports to the EEAS headquarters in Brussels.
