David Johnstone Pryde ( 1890 - August 2, 1959 ) was a British politician . He was a member and representative of the National Union of Scottish Miners .

Political career

In the general election in 1931 , the continued Unionist Archibald Maule Ramsay in the constituency Peebles and Southern Midlothian against the Labor -Politiker Joseph Westwood by which the constituency since 1922 in the House represented. In the following general election in 1935 , Pryde was Westwood's successor for the Labor Party for the first time in elections at the national level. Despite significant gains in the vote for his party, he was defeated by Ramsay. Ramsay did not run for the post-war elections in 1945 . With a share of the vote of 55.7%, Pryde received a majority vote on election day and subsequently moved into the House of Commons for the first time.

At the end of the term, Pryde's Peebles and Southern Midlothian constituency was dissolved. For the following general election in 1950 , Pryde therefore applied for the mandate of the newly created constituency Midlothian and Peebles , in which large parts of the previous constituency had been absorbed. Pollock won the vote just as clearly as the subsequent 1951 elections .

After the constituency of Midlothian and Peebles was dissolved at the end of the electoral term, Pryde entered the general election in 1955 in the constituency of Midlothian , one of the successor constituencies . He was able to book 60.2% of the votes for himself and thus kept his seat in the House of Commons. Pryde died shortly before the end of the electoral term. Since parliament was about to be dissolved, no by-elections were scheduled in the constituency. In the following general election in 1959 , James Hill defended the Labor Party mandate. In Parliament there are 504 speeches by Prydes.
