Delma ( Arabic دلما, DMG Dalmā ) is a volcanic island off the coast of Abu Dhabi . It has a size of nine by five kilometers in a north-south orientation, without the artificially filled southern peninsula . The total area is 36.57 km². In the central mountains it reaches a height of 98 meters.
The Arabic name Delma means something like "a bucket full of water", which alludes to the presence of a well compared to the surrounding, dry islands. The island has around 6000 inhabitants and has a long tradition of pearl diving, fishing and boat building as well as the cultivation of date palms . There is a local airport on Delma with a flight connection to Abu Dhabi . There is a ferry connection to Jebel az-Zanna .
On the island is the Delma Museum , which exhibits archaeological finds.
In 1904 the population was only 75.
