Delpher

Delpher is a digital library with full-text digitized historical Dutch newspapers, books, magazines and radio broadcasts from libraries, museums and other cultural institutions.

Delpher is freely accessible and provides approximately one million newspapers, 180,000 books and 1.5 million magazine pages for free. The offer is growing steadily. The website is a valuable source of historical texts in Dutch. Information on using the database can be found here:

Collections

  • Newspapers: around 8 million newspaper pages from the Netherlands, the Netherlands Antilles and Suriname between 1618 and 1995. That is around 10 percent of what was published in that period.
  • Books: 180,000 books from the 17th century onwards
  • Magazines : 80 magazine titles from the period 1850 to 1940
  • Radio broadcasts: 1.8 million broadcast manuscripts of ANP radio broadcasts (so-called typescripts) from 1937 to 1984
