Demetrios (son of Althaimenes)

Demetrios ( Greek  Δημήτριος ; † probably 325 BC), son of Althaimenes, was a Macedonian equestrian general and companion ( hetairos ) of Alexander the great in the 4th century BC.

During the campaign of conquest in Asia , Demetrios was first seen in the battle of Gaugamela in 331 BC. Chr. Named as commander (ilarchos) one of the eight squadrons of the Hetairenreiterei . Possibly he had this position from the beginning of the campaign in 334 BC. And consequently also fought in the battles at Granikos (334 BC) and Issus (333 BC) . In the further course he rose to the commander of one of the four hipparchies (hipparchos) of the Hetairenriders and distinguished himself in this function in the fighting in the Swat valley and in the capture of the city of Ora (near Saidu Sharif, Pakistan) in the years 327-326 v. Chr. From. In the Battle of the Hydaspes , Demetrios led his hipparchy with that of Koinos to the decisive blow in the rear of the Indian army of Poros . The last time it is at the beginning of the Indus journey against the Maller at the turn of the year 326/5 BC. Chr. Called in use. Demetrios probably died shortly afterwards.
