Demetrios N. Christodoulides

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Demetrios N. Christodoulides (* 1958 ) is an American physicist who deals with quantum electronics and nonlinear optics .

Christodoulides received his PhD from Johns Hopkins University in 1986 and was then at Bell Laboratories (Bellcore) in Murray Hill. From 1988 to 2002 he taught at Lehigh University and the College of Optics and Photonics (CREOL) at the University of Central Florida . He is a Distinguished Research Professor there.

He researches linear and non-linear interaction of optical rays in media, non-diffractive Bessel rays and Airy rays, synthetic optical materials, optical solitons (also in partially coherent waves) and quantum electronics . Among other things, he investigated entanglement and Anderson localization in photonic gratings.

In 2011 he received the RW Wood Prize . He is a fellow of the Optical Society of America , which presented him with its Max Born Award in 2018 , and the American Physical Society .
