Democrazia Europea

Democrazia Europea ( European Democracy ) was a Christian Democratic party in Italy , founded and led by the former trade union leader Sergio D'Antoni (previously Secretary General of the CISL from 1991 to 2000 ).

The party was officially founded on February 11, 2001 and a parliamentary group of the same name was formed in the Senate . Ten parliamentarians became members of this group, including the senator for life and multiple former prime minister Giulio Andreotti and the former minister Ortensio Zecchino .

In the 2001 parliamentary elections, the party ran alone, not as part of one of the two major electoral alliances Ulivo and Casa delle Libertà . She won only two seats in the Senate and none in the Camera dei deputati .

The party disbanded on December 6, 2002 ; it merged with the CCD and CDU in the newly founded Christian Democratic UDC and thus became part of the government alliance led by Silvio Berlusconi .

Sergio D'Antoni , however, was in 2004 a member of the Ulivo belonging to La Margherita - Democrazia è Libertà . In October 2004, D'Antoni was elected to the Camera dei Deputati in a by-election for the Ulivo .
