Democracy and Law (DuR) was a legal journal that has been published quarterly since 1973 by the left-wing Pahl-Rugenstein Verlag . After its bankruptcy, it was initially continued in the Democracy and Law magazine publishing house . Its publication was discontinued in 1993. Peter Römer was co-founder and co-editor . The authors included a. Helmut Ridder and Karl-Heinz Ladeur , who published the essay The so-called political mandate of the university and student body: legal opinions as supplement No. 1 to DuR .

Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Brigitte Zypries worked on the editorial team as students . The newspaper was monitored by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution and financed by the GDR. When the GDR stopped its payments at the end of 1989, the publisher had to file for bankruptcy.
