The Democratic Army of Greece ( Dimokratikos Stratos Elladas ; DSE ; Δημοκρατικός Στρατός Ελλάδας) was the armed organization of the Communist Party of Greece (ΚΚΕ) during the Greek Civil War .

Associations of the ELAS , who fought as partisans against the German and Italian occupation troops in World War II , had opposed disarmament despite the Varkiza Agreement and some had gone into exile in Yugoslavia . The Greek Communist Party succeeded in amalgamating the individual left groups into a single armed organization. This appeared from December 1946 under the name Dimokratikos Stratos Elladas and, as the purely communist successor of ELAS, continued the civil war against the government until its final defeat in 1949.
