Peer Pasternack

Peer Pasternack (* 1963 in Köthen ) is a German social scientist and contemporary historian . He is director of the Institute for University Research (HoF) at the University of Halle-Wittenberg .

Life

Peer Pasternack grew up in Halle-Neustadt , completed an apprenticeship as a vehicle mechanic and was a professional driver for six years . In 1987 he began studying Scientific Communism at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig . From November 1989 to 1995 he acted as student representative in the student council and academic senate of the university. In 1990/91 he was the first Saxon state student representative and from 1991 to 1994 he was the spokesman for the East German Conference of Student Unions (KdS).

Pasternack has been the publisher of hochschule ost magazine since 1991 . leipziger contributions to university & science , which since 2002 under the title the university. journal for education and science appears. 1992–1995 he was also co-managing director of Leipziger Universitätsverlag GmbH.

Pasternack completed his studies in 1994 with a diploma in political science . 1998 doctorate he at the Department of Pedagogy of the University of Oldenburg in Michael Daxner Dr. phil.

From 1996 to 2001 Pasternack was a university researcher and research coordinator at the Institute for University Research (HoF) at the University of Halle-Wittenberg , and from 1997–2002 lecturer in political science at the University of Leipzig . In January 2002 he was appointed State Secretary for Science in the Senate of Berlin as an independent expert . He gave up the office at the end of 2003 in a dispute over further savings in the Berlin university sector. He returned to the Institute for Higher Education Research in 2004 and has been its research director ever since.

In 2005 he completed his habilitation in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Kassel , supervised by Ulrich Teichler . He teaches as a professor at the Institute for Sociology at the University of Halle-Wittenberg. Pasternack's work focuses on university policy analysis, university organization, education and science in regional contexts, and contemporary history of science.
