The Monument to Laboratory Mice ( Russian Памятник лабораторной мыши ) is a statue in the Russian city ​​of Novosibirsk . The monument is located in Akademgorodok , in a park near the Institute of Cytology and Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences .

The statue shows an anthropomorphic mouse wearing glasses and a lab coat and knitting a structural model of a DNA helix with two knitting needles . It is Z-DNA that has not yet been fully explored.

The 70 cm high statue stands on a 2.5 m high base. It is reminiscent of the laboratory rats and laboratory mice used in genetic research to understand biological and physiological mechanisms for developing new drugs and curing diseases.

The first stone was laid on June 1, 2012 in honor of the 55th anniversary of the founding of the Institute of Cytology and Genetics. The monument was unveiled on July 1, 2013, on the 120th anniversary of the city's founding. The sculpture was designed by Andrei Charkewitsch, an artist from Novosibirsk, and cast in bronze by Maxim Petrov in Tomsk .
