Waldschmidtdenkmal on the summit of the Großer Riedelstein

The monument to Hofrat Maximilian Schmidt is a tower on the Großer Riedelstein on the border between the Lower Bavarian municipality of Arnbruck and the Upper Palatinate municipality of Arrach . It was erected in 1909 in honor of the local poet Maximilian Schmidt (1832-1919), known as Waldschmidt , based on a design by Georg von Hauberrisser .

On the rocky summit of the mountain, Hauberrisser created a massive tower from hewn stones, which - following the taste of historicism - is based on the shape of a medieval city tower. At the top it ends with a tent roof , which is crowned by a stone ball.

On the south side is a bronze relief plate by the Munich sculptor and ore caster Hans Klement , which shows the portrait of Schmidt. The inscription plaque was renewed in 1974.
