history

Denton Castle was built as a Motte after 1088, following the Norman conquest of England . The order to build the moth was probably placed by William d'Albini , who linked his lands in Denton and Buckenham and also had a castle built in Buckenham . The mound is about 50 meters in diameter and is surrounded by a moat for protection . The adjacent courtyard has the shape of a horseshoe. The castle could have been destroyed around 1254.

Today the castle ruins are a Scheduled Monument . In 1990 the National Trust bought it and runs it under Darrow Wood .
