The Purkarec depot (also known as the Purkarec hoard ) is a depot find of the Early Bronze Age Aunjetitz culture from Purkarec , a district of Hluboká nad Vltavou in Jihočeský kraj , Czech Republic . It dates between 1775 and 1631 BC. Today the depot is in the museum of Týn nad Vltavou .

Find history

The depot was discovered in 2007 with a metal detector in the forest west of Purkarec . This was followed by an archaeological follow-up examination. The site is on the edge of a small plateau below a mountain peak. The finds were located at a depth of 20 cm in a pit lined with stones.

composition

The depot consists of 74 copper bars and 14 broken fragments. The bars were arranged in bundles of 5–6 each. The bundles were held together by strings of grass from which remnants had been preserved. This made it possible to determine the age of the deposit using the radiocarbon method at 1775–1631 cal BC . The total weight of the finds is 11.387 kg.
