The Defector is a novel by Siegfried Lenz , which was published posthumously in 2016 and filmed in 2020 .

Emergence

Siegfried Lenz wrote the novel The Defector as early as 1951, but the Hoffmann und Campe publishing house refused to publish the work for political reasons. When the novel was finally published in 2016, seventeen months after Lenz's death, it led the list of the best-selling fiction books in Germany for five weeks, from March 12 to April 15, 2016 .
