The Albrecht (spelling DER ALBRECHT) is an independent university newspaper at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel . It has been published once a month during the lecture period since 1999 with a circulation of 7,500 copies and is distributed free of charge in front of the canteens and displayed in many institute buildings, museums, pubs and cafes. Both the Kiel University Library and the Schleswig-Holstein State Archives collect and archive all issues of the newspaper.

The newspaper appears in eight-page A3 format, all pages are colored.

Special features of the paper are on the one hand “Page Three”, on which socio-politically relevant topics are taken up every month. There is also the “white space”, which impresses on the last page of every issue as a bouncer with funny, creative, colorful or provocative concepts. In the margin note on the front page, the editor also lets out sarcastic, humorous comments on a social, political, or everyday topic.

Content and organization

The Albrecht reports on student life in the fields of university, society and culture at the Christian-Albrechts-University , the Muthesius Academy of Art and the Kiel University of Applied Sciences . Anyone who is enrolled at one of these universities can take part. The organizational structure is divided into a double editor-in-chief, consisting of an editor-in-chief and a deputy. The deputy takes care of the finance area. There are also three department heads in the university , society and culture departments as well as heads for picture editing, layout, editing, social media and white space.

In order to guarantee independence from university and student representatives, Der Albrecht is financed through advertisements. Thanks to a cooperation with the Kieler Nachrichten , the paper is printed without any financial expense.

Awards

In 2007 Der Albrecht was awarded seventh place at the Campus Press Award. A total of 43 student newspapers took part in the competition.
