The Leprechaun (Polka)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The leprechaun is a polka - Mazur of Johann Strauss II (op 226th). The work was first performed on August 13, 1859 in Pavlovsk , Russia.

Remarks

The polka was written in the summer of 1859 while the composer traveled again to Russia. At that time, Strauss had an affair with the Russian civil servant's daughter Olga Smirnitzkaja. Since it was apparently a bit capricious, he nicknamed it Kobold . When she asked him to write a polka, the composer chose that name as the title of the work. Musically, the spooky goblin is processed in the polka. However, the work does not have an express dedication to Olga. In Vienna this polka was first performed at a concert on November 20, 1859 in the Volksgarten .

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 4 minutes and 19 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
