The Trial (Gogol)

The Trial ( Russian Тяжба , Tjaschba ) is a comedy by the Russian writer Nikolai Gogol , which was probably written in the period 1832–1836, published in 1842 and on September 27, 1844 in St. Petersburg with Mikhail Shtschepkin as Burdjukow and Alexander Evstafjewitsch Martynow as Proljotow was premiered.

When Alexander Prolyotov, Senior Secretary in the Senate of the Court, looks at the paper Nordic Bee , he has to be annoyed every time. So this time too. Pavel Burdyukov, the bribe taker who has stood before the bar on several occasions, was promoted. Disgusted, Alexander Prolyotov puts the newspaper aside. Burdyukov's visit is reported to him. But it is not Pavel who enters, but his squat brother Christofor from Tambov . Christofor was cheated of the inheritance by his brother.

It is a pleasure for Alexander Prolyotov to represent Christofor in the inheritance dispute.
