Mikhail Shchepkin ( Russian Михаил Семёнович Щепкин ;. Scientific transliteration Mikhail Semenovic Ščepkin ; born November 6 . Jul / 17th November  1788 greg. In Krasnoje, Kursk ; † August 11 jul. / 23. August  1863 greg. In Yalta ) was a famous Russian actor and is considered one of the founders of the Russian theater school. He was born the son of a simple serf. Shchepkin was the first to play Famusov in Griboyedov's comedy Verstand macht Leiden or: Woe der Verstand (Gore ot uma, 1831). The renowned Shchepkin Theater School in Moscow is named after him today and was honored by the Russian Post for its 200th anniversary by issuing a stamp on November 25, 2009. This stamp shows a look at the school building.

The writer , poet , playwright and translator Tatiana Lvovna Shchepkina-Kupernik was a great-granddaughter of Shchepkin.
