history

The foundation was founded in 1957 as a training center for the housing industry with the aim of meeting the high demand for qualified personnel for housing construction in the young Federal Republic. The land was badly damaged and there was a great housing shortage. At that time, there was no apprenticeship for the industry. The first location was Hösel , a district of Ratingen. The first headmaster was Dr. Hans Joachim Haertler, who started in 1959 with 140 students.

The housing industry training center was to remain the only educational institution for the entire property industry in Germany until the end of the 1980s.

With the abolition of the Non-Profit Housing Act at the end of the 1980s, the need for management skills increased beyond what the training center offered. That is why the GdW Federal Association of German Housing and Real Estate Companies founded the Leadership Academy of the Housing and Real Estate Industry (FWI) with the support of the working group of large housing companies . It initially offered further training and from 2002 onwards, in cooperation with the then Gelsenkirchen University of Applied Sciences, the first bachelor's degree in the industry.

Relocation from Hösel to Bochum

In 1997 the EBZ moved into a new, more spacious house in the Springorum innovation park in Bochum . An increasing number of participants made it necessary to expand the space and offer capacities. The new building was awarded the BDA architecture prize. In 2002 there was a merger with the management academy for the housing and real estate industry. In 2008 the EBZ founded its own university with the EBZ Business School .

It offers bachelor's and master's degrees. A study center was founded in Hamburg and others in Munich and Wiesbaden were added. When the university was founded, the group of founders was also expanded: The Federal Association of Independent Housing and Real Estate Companies (BFW) contributed to the EBZ as part of an endowment.

Range of educational offers

The EBZ offers educational opportunities for the housing and real estate industry, for example initial training to become a real estate agent and further training and courses.

Training at the EBZ vocational college for real estate management

The EBZ Berufskolleg Immobilienwirtschaft is a state-recognized substitute school and the largest school for real estate agents in Germany. Classes in the vocational college are based on the curriculum of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The vocational school forms the basis for further educational opportunities in the EBZ. The Fachschule für Wirtschaft (specializing in housing and real estate loans) offers a course to become a state-certified business economist .

Education and training at the EBZ Academy

The further training offers of the EBZ Akademie are aimed on the one hand at private persons who want to equip themselves with additional skills for activities in the housing industry or the real estate industry, on the other hand directly at housing companies and real estate companies who want to train and support their employees. All further training offers at the EBZ Akademie are therefore designed to be part-time.

The educational offerings of the European Education Center for the Housing and Real Estate Industry can be divided into short-term (such as webinars, seminars, specialist conferences) and long-term advanced training courses (such as courses and distance learning courses).

In addition, the EBZ Academy advises and supports companies in the further training of employees, in talent and management development and in the acquisition of new specialists.
