The Samaritan ( Le Samaritain ) is a Franco-Belgian comic series published between 2004 and 2009 .

Shimon of Samaria is a member of the Jerusalem High Council. His job as a judge also includes solving crimes. Since he was brought up as a Jew in Rome, he knows both ways of life. During their investigations, he and his young assistant Reuben get caught between the fronts of the Jewish population and the Roman occupying forces several times.

Fred Le Berre wrote the crime series that is set in ancient Judea around the year 20. The drawings were by Michel Rouge . A short story was published in 2004 in Métal Hurlant . With the exception of the second story, which was partially pre-published in 2004 in BoDoï , the series was released directly in album form by Les Humanoïdes Associés . In the German-speaking area, an episode in the new Zack was printed before the albums were released.
