The Tog was a Yiddish newspaper. It appeared from 1914 to 1971 in the Lower East Side of New York .

The newspaper strived for a high journalistic and intellectual level and over the years also published articles by authors such as Joseph Opatoshu , Perez Hirschbein , David Pinski and Abraham Reisen . Texts by Sholem Alejchem were also printed. Tog was probably the first Yiddish newspaper with journalists like Anna Margolin in the In der froyen velt section

History of appearance

The Tog was founded by Juda Leib Magnes, David Shapiro, Morris Weinberg and Herman Bernstein. In 1916 a circulation of 81,000 issues was sold daily. In 1919 the newspaper Di Varhayt was added, the name was now Der Tog, di Varhayt (until 1922). In 1953, Der Tog was merged with the newspaper Morgn Zshurnal and appeared as Der Tog Morgn Zshurnal . In 1970 a circulation of 50,000 copies a day was sold. In 1971 the newspaper stopped its publication.
