The Tomorrow Code (original title: The Tomorrow Code ) is the fourth novel by the New Zealand writer Brian Falkner . It is set in New Zealand and is a mixture of eco and science fiction - a thriller for young people and adults that addresses and criticizes the destruction of nature. Rebecca and Tane use a pretext to obtain data from NASA's Swift satellite , which detects and documents gamma-ray explosions. The two young people evaluate them with a computer program that searches for patterns in the rays. In this way, the two discover messages from the future that are encrypted using Morse code .

Ultimately, Rebecca and Tane manage to crack the code and read the message: It is a message from their two future selves that was sent back from their own future: If people don't change their behavior towards their environment soon, they will control World headed for an apocalyptic disaster in the future.

Tane and Rebecca follow the cryptic instructions of the message and have to realize that the survival of humanity seems to be at stake - and depends on them.

The two young main characters Rebecca and Tane have known each other since childhood. The half-orphan Rebecca is an energetic and committed environmental activist who has been arrested by the police for her work in protests. The more reserved and somewhat shy Maori Tane accompanies Rebecca in all of her daring actions, also to be with the girl he admires. Tane admires Rebecca's keen analytical mind, and Rebecca likes Tane's unusual, sometimes twisted view of the world and life.

Brian Falkner studied computer science and journalism before he fulfilled his dream of becoming a writer with his first book for young people in 2003. Today he is a multiple award-winning author of books for children and young people. He lives in Gold Coast , Australia with his wife and two children .
