content
The Zahir tells the story of a man whose wife disappears. It is unclear whether she was kidnapped or whether she made off with a younger lover. The question of why Esther disappeared without a word fills the man's mind to the point of obsession. Esther became a Zahir: "A Zahir is something that, once you have touched it or seen it, never forgets it again and that occupies our entire thinking to the point of madness". The abandoned one realizes that only if he finds Esther again can he defeat the Zahir. An inner and outer journey begins, at the end of which must be love.
