Mark, a boy from the 20th century, was able to help the twelve-year-old Rhon from the future and both went on a journey into the past. They vowed friendship and so one day during the summer vacation Rhon appears again to visit Mark. He would like to take him on a journey back in time and this time introduce him to the Count of St. Germain , a mysterious figure who also travels through time and who is said to be in possession of the elixir of life and to be able to produce gold .

Before that, the two friends visit Jeanne d'Arc and almost get into a fight with rough farm boys who are chasing the tender girl. Then they travel further into the future and experience how Joan of Arc rides to Paris , now as a stately knight with an entourage, to meet the king. They discover a bag with gold coins and can bribe the royal jester Jaco to gain access to the castle.

Then they fly to the seat of the Count of St. Germain. The Count is in a good mood and transforms a brooch from Mark's mother into real gold. Shortly afterwards they fly to Egypt in the age of the pharaohs to visit Thutmose , a friend of the count. At the time of her arrival, Queen Nefertiti is also staying in the city. When they arrive, the count and the boys are there, but a threatening mishap happens to Mark: he loses his cap and his light blond hair comes out.
