action

The operetta is set in a large city on the Rhine in 1932

The winery owner Peter Sander would like to see his daughter Edith take on Horst Brenkendorf, whom he so greatly values. The two young people have nothing against it either; but now it's carnival, and fun is in the foreground. Edith disguised herself as a golden Pierrot and brings the mood to the boiling point at a masked ball. Nobody knows who is hiding behind the mask, not even her curious father, who, as chairman of the Elferrat, would love to know who the joker really is.

As the golden Pierrot, Edith approaches her beloved Horst Brenkendorf and gives him the blessing to marry the daughter of the winery owner Sander. However, she tied the permission to the condition that he - whenever she wanted and wherever it might be - to accompany her to a shepherd's hour.

Half a year later. On the evening of the wedding celebration, the time has finally come: Benkendorf receives the invitation from the golden Pierrot to immediately drop everything and accompany him to a secluded spot. What Edith didn't think possible happened: Horst went with me. What an unfaithful husband! When the two are alone in the Separée, the golden Pierrot has to find out that this time he is the spoiled one. Edith had forgotten to take off the wedding ring for her role as the golden Pierrot. That is why it was not hidden from her wives who Pierrot was, and that was the only reason why he followed her. He too only played one role: that of the unfaithful husband.

Back in the salon, the wedding is celebrated again.
