Derek S. Pugh

Derek Salman Pugh (born August 31, 1930 in London - † January 29, 2015 ) was a British psychologist, organizational researcher, university lecturer, consultant and author.

Life

Until his retirement in 2000, Pugh was Professor of International Management at the Open University , Great Britain (from 1983). He previously taught at the University of Edinburgh (1953–1957), University of Birmingham (1957–60), Aston (1960–1967) and the London Business School (1968–1969). He also held visiting professorships in France, Germany, Israel and Italy. Pugh received his academic training at the University of Edinburgh (MA 1953, MSc 1956) and the University of Aston (DSc 1973).

Pugh has authored or co-authored 15 books, including the first three volumes of the Aston Research Program .

As part of his work, Pugh was an influential writer and organizational development (OE) researcher. In addition to his work in the Aston group, he developed the Pugh matrix , a tool often used in OE.

In honor of Pugh, Open University has awarded the Professor Derek Pugh Prize to the best student in the OUBS Certificate Program every year since 1995 .
