Derya Torun (born August 5, 1980 in Berlin ) is a former German boxer and kickboxer of Kurdish descent. She boxed for the Arena Box Promotion from Hamburg .

Amateur career

From 1989 to 2003 she was active in kickboxing , since 1993 she has been a trainer in this martial arts and has won national and international competitions. Before she dominated in pointfighting , she fought parallel in light contact. Her greatest successes in kickboxing were winning the 2000 World Cup in Louisville , Kentucky , USA , the birthplace of Muhammad Ali , and winning the 2001 US Open in Orlando , Florida , one of the largest American tournaments.

Twice in a row she was honored as fighter of the year by the WKA Association in 1999 and 2000 . At the WKA, she was the first and so far only German to be ranked first in all weight classes in pointfighting.

At the age of 14, Derya also started boxing. The boxing training with her then Jamaican trainer Owen Reece, who also looked after her in her professional career, was only seen as a supplement to kickboxing. So it was just boxing training. At that time she had no ambitions to switch to pure boxing.

In 2003 she ended her kickboxing career and devoted herself only to boxing. From 2002 to 2003 she was the sparring partner of the then world champion Daisy Lang . Another year later she was the sparring partner of today's world champions Ina Mentzer and Susianna Kentikian .
