Desbeke

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Desbeke (other spellings: Dessebeke or Desbike ) is a desolate place in Brilon in the Sauerland .

The place was between Brilon and Hoppecke on the northern slope of the Bilstein , near today's federal highway 7 . The corridor used to be called In der Desmeke . On the path to Haus Romberg, wall remnants were found while plowing in the 20th century; the main courtyard was probably located here. In 1310, Heinrich von Beringhausen and Jakob von Hortepe, each with two farms, and Hermann Schwarte and Lambert von Ostwig, each with one farm, are named as fiefs. The place was mentioned in the Arnsberg property registers in the 14th century.

Like many other places, the place fell victim to the great desolation process in the late Middle Ages . It was probably a creeping, slow process that began around 1300. There are different theories about the reasons for leaving the place. For example, the attraction of the city of Brilon is being considered. Another reason was plague epidemics and residents' need to seek shelter in fortified cities .
