Desert Stream Ministries

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Desert Stream Ministries is an American organization that has set itself the task of leading homosexuals out of their sexual predisposition into heterosexuality and is part of the ex-gay movement . As the founder and current director, Andrew Comiskey , in 2003 moved his residence from the metropolitan Los Angeles to Kansas City, the association also moved its headquarters from Anaheim ( California ) to Grandview (Missouri) .

history

Desert Stream was founded in 1980 by Andrew Comiskey as the first group. From the first group, other groups quickly formed and together they developed the Living Waters program.

In addition to the self-imposed task of changing from homosexuality to heterosexuality, the group soon turned to sexual problems in which they wanted to offer help to those affected, including sexual dependency / sex addiction and sexual abuse.

The first groups quickly developed into a worldwide organization. Today Desert Stream oversees a growing number of parish-affiliated programs in over 20 countries. It gave impetus to found other independent organizations such as B. Wuestenstrom in Germany and Switzerland.

The organization Desert Stream Ministries sees its tasks in the training and support of local parishes in the establishment of their own groups as well as in the establishment of further own Desert Stream groups worldwide.

criticism

Desert Stream Ministries is highly controversial because the basic views of homosexuality represented by the organization contradict the ideas and research results established today in sexology, psychiatry and psychology. The world's leading psychiatric and psychological organizations see measures to turn homosexuals into heterosexuals as a risk of damaging effects on clients.

Based on evangelical- Christian values, the association takes the view that homosexual behavior is God-undesirable - a view that is strongly criticized by other worldviews such as secular humanism .
