Andrew Comiskey (born January 13, 1958 ) is an American theologian. He is the founder of Desert Stream Ministries , an American organization dedicated to trying to lead homosexuals out of their sexual predisposition into heterosexuality .

Life

Comiskey grew up in the Los Angeles metropolitan area . His family belonged to the Mainline Church , the moderate Protestant Church. With puberty he developed his homosexual tendency. In high school he went to gay discos in Hollywood . After graduating, he moved from home and lived with a friend in a gay neighborhood in Long Beach .

After two of his older brothers became evangelical Christians , Comiskey began to be more interested in the Christian faith. In November 1976 he decided to live as an Evangelical Christian. Then he moved back to his parents. He experienced the tension between the church's claim or his now accepted belief not to live his homosexuality and, on the other hand, his sexual feelings and needs as unbearable. Comiskey decided to continue to follow the chosen religious orientation.

Comiskey first studied English and French at the University of California in Los Angeles. During that time, 1979, he joined a local church where he was often assigned to counseling lesbians and gays. At the suggestion of the elders of his community, he founded and led an ex-gay group in which homosexuals are supposed to change their sexual orientation. Comiskey then studied theology at Fuller Theological Seminary , where he graduated with a Master of Divinity . The Vineyard Movement ordained him a pastor in 1981.

As a result of his work in his ex-gay group, Comiskey founded the Desert Stream Ministries organization in 1980 , which pursues a similar objective. In the following years he also wrote books for the ex-gay movement , which over time he became a more well-known protagonist in the United States. For a while he was President of Exodus International , a US umbrella organization of ex-gay organizations.

2003 Comiskey left the Vineyard movement and worked in the International House of Prayer of Mike Bickle in Kansas City (Missouri) with.

Andrew Comiskey has been married to his wife, Annette, since 1980, whom he met as a student at the University of California. They have four children together.

Comiskey stated that he still sometimes struggles with his previous sexual desires, but sees himself as "cured" of his "sexual brokenness". The "healing" is however "a long and not easy process".
