German service robotics initiative

DESIRE ( acronym for German Service Robotics Initiative ) was a joint project that was funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research from 2005 to 2009 as part of the "Lead Innovation Service Robotics" . The aim of the initiative was to maintain and expand the leading role of German research and industry in the field of service robotics . German universities, Fraunhofer institutes , the Karlsruhe Computer Science Research Center, the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and industrial partners such as KUKA Roboter , Schunk GmbH & Co. KG , Neobotix, InMach Intelligente Maschinen GmbH and Siemens were involved in the implementation .
