The Desma Shoe Machinery GmbH (proper spelling DESMA ) is a medium-sized company in the special machine for the production of solutions for the industrial production of shoes. The company develops highly automated production systems and robot solutions that are sold to shoe manufacturers worldwide. According to the parent company Salzgitter Klöckner-Werke , Desma is the world's leading machine and mold supplier for both direct soling and sole manufacturing processes. The company is based in Achim near Bremen and currently employs around 220 people (2017). In 2017 the company generated an annual turnover of approx. 45 million euros, with an export share of 95%.
history
Desma Schuhmaschinen GmbH was founded in 1946 by Herbert Ludwig in Achim under the name "DESCO" (Deutsche Spezialmaschinen & Co. UE Ludwig KG). In the 1950s, the direct soling process using vulcanization presses was developed and the DESMA brand was created. In 1959 the first direct soling machine for liquid PVC and later for granulates was installed. In the 1960s, further processes in the area of rubber injection molding machines were developed. Desma became the market leader for shoe machines and molds in 1970, mainly due to the advanced PU-PVC technology at the time.
In 1981 Desma was incorporated into the Klöckner-Ferromatik Group, which developed into the world's leading company for injection molding machines around 1986. Due to the collapse of the former USSR at the end of the eighties, Desma had to accept a sharp decline in orders, because around 60% of total sales were covered by this market at that time. As a result, the number of employees fell from 1,000 to 240 in 1996.
In 1993, after the reorganization of the Klöckner Group , Desma became an independent member, consisting of the two companies Klöckner Desma Schuhmaschinen GmbH in Achim and Klöckner Desma Elastomertechnik in Fridingen. In 1996 the Desma company celebrated its 50th birthday and made major investments in design development and mold construction . In 2003 Desma ( Guangzhou ) Machinery & Engineering Co., Ltd. founded in China . From now on, the Desma branch will specialize in the fast delivery of spare parts and the provision of technical service in China. In 2016 the company celebrated its 70th anniversary.
