Desmond Lee Ti-Seng ( Chinese  李智 陞 , Tamil டெஸ்மண்ட் லீ ; * July 15, 1976 ) is a politician of the People's Action Party (PAP) in Singapore , who has been a member of parliament since 2011 and was a minister several times. As Deputy Leader of the House, he has been Deputy Chairman of the PAP Group since 2015 and, since 2017, Minister for Social Development and Family Development and Second Minister for National Development.

Life

Desmond Lee Ti-Seng is the son of the politician Lee Yock Suan , who was also a member of parliament from 1980 to 2006 and was a minister several times between 1987 and 2004. He attended the Anglo-Chinese Junior School , the Raffles Institution , founded in 1823, and the Raffles Junior College and then began studying law at the National University of Singapore , which he obtained in 2001 with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) with the highest distinction completed. He then began his career as a research assistant of a judge of the Supreme Court (Supreme Court of Singapore) and was then as Deputy Prosecutor (Deputy Public Prosecutor) operates as well as the Council of State in the Criminal Division in the Office of the Attorney General. He completed a postgraduate degree in law at the University of Oxford with a Master of Laws (LL.M.) and in 2005 became Head of the Legal Department of the Department of Health. After two years in the Department of Justice's legal policy, he became legal advisor to the holding company Temasek Holdings , of which Ho Ching is Chief Executive Officer , the wife of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong .

On May 7, 2011, Desmond Lee became a member of parliament for the People's Action Party (PAP) for the first time in the Group Representation Constituency Jurong GRC and has represented this constituency ever since. During his membership in parliament he was a member of various committees. He took over his first government office on September 1, 2013 and served as Minister of State in the Ministry of National Development in the cabinet of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong between September 1, 2013 and September 30, 2015. Since October 1, 2015 he has been Deputy Leader of the House of the PAP Group in Parliament. At the same time he was Senior Minister of State in the Ministry for National Development and Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of the Interior between October 1, 2015 and April 30, 2017. He then served as Second Interior Minister and Minister in the Prime Minister's Office from May 1, 2017 to September 10, 2017.

Since May 1, 2017 Lee acts as Second Minister for National Development (Second Minister for National Development) . On September 11, 2017, he also took over the post of Minister for Social and Family Development .

Desmond Lee is married with three children.
