NCsoft Austin is an American company with headquarters in Austin , Texas , that develops massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPG). It was founded in April 2000 under the name Destination Games, Inc. by Richard Garriott , Robert Garriott and Starr Long , after Richard Garriott and Long left Origin Systems , founded by Richard and Robert . Robert Garriott left Origin in 1995. The name Destination (dt .: destination ) is a clear allusion to Origin (dt .: origin ). Richard Garriott and Starr Long had previously led the development of Ultima Online .
On May 17, 2001, Richard Garriott announced the collaboration with the South Korean company NCsoft at the Electronic Entertainment Expo . The American headquarters of NCsoft was then founded in Austin and Robert Garriott became CEO of NCsoft North America . Destination Games was involved in adapting NCsoft's Lineage range for the American market. 2007 saw the release of the first game developed by Destination Games and co-developed by Richard Garriott, Tabula Rasa .
In 2008, Garriott was fired, he sued NCsoft for severance pay and reached a court that he was awarded $ 32 million.
