Career

Detlef Eckert has a severe walking handicap. He started athletics in the shot put discipline . With the German National Disabled Sports Team , he took part in the Paralympic Summer Games in 1992 and 1996 and won two silver medals in the shot put. In 1992 in Barcelona he finished second in the THS 2 performance group behind his team mate Jörg Frischmann . Also at the Paralympic Summer Games in 1996 he competed for Germany in the shot put in the performance group F 42 and again achieved second place.

As early as June 23, 1993, Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker awarded him the silver laurel leaf for winning the silver medal at the 1992 Paralympic Summer Games .
